NOTICE FOR GRADE 8 STUDENTS AND PARENTS: Final Term Preparatory Exams and Checkpoint Mock 2 Exam schedules: Dear Parents:  Please find below the schedule for Final Term Preparatory Exams. The format of the Question papers and the duration of the exams will be the same as that of the Final Term Examinations. Grade 8: Final Term Preparatory Tests on Core Subjects: April 2024 Date Day Subject Begins Duration Ends 21.4.24 Sun Sciences 8:40 am 2 hours 10:40 am 22.4.24 Mon English 8:40 AM 2 hours 20 mins 11:00 am 23.4.24 Tue Bangla 8:40 am 2 hours 10:40 am 25.4.24 Thur Mathematics 8:40 am 2 hours 10:40 am General Instructions : 1) There will be regular classes after the exams on the mock exam days. 2) Students will sit for the Examination in their respective classrooms. 3) Students are advised to carry all stationery items with them. They will not be allowed to borrow from others during an exam. 4) Students are advised to carry a transparent pouch/bag to keep all stationery items. 5) Dispersal time: Regular dispersal time 6) Please note: If a holiday is declared on a mock examination day due to some unavoidable circumstances, the exam scheduled for that day will be held on the next available working day and all other exams will shift accordingly. Please check the School Website for any notification regarding the exam timetable. For example, if after having exams on Day 1 & 2, no exam could be held on Day 3, then that day’s exam will be held on the next available working day and all the exams that follow will shift serially. For Checkpoint Examinees: Students who have registered for the Checkpoint Examinations will sit for the Checkpoint Mock 2 Tests on campus as per the following schedule: March 19: Sciences (from 8:40 am) March 20: English (from 8:40 am) March 21: Mathematics (from 8:40 am) Exam Venue: Main Hall (Level 5). Regular classes will continue after the Exams.   The Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations will be held from April 22, 23, and 24. So, registered Checkpoint Examinees are exempted from the Preparatory Exams on April 22, 23 and 24 respectively.  The tests will be given to the students as take-home tests. প্রতিদিন নিজেকে গড়া

প্রতিদিন নিজেকে গড়া আমরা একটু খেয়াল করে নিজেদের চারপাশে তাকালেই দেখতে পাই, সব কিছুই পরিবর্তিত হচ্ছে। আমাদের চারপাশ প্রতিদিন নতুন করে গড়ছে। তারবিহীন উপায়ে একজন আরেকজনের সঙ্গে কথা বলবে—একসময় আমরা এমন কিছু কল্পনাও করতে পারতাম না। আর এখন এটাই আমাদের বাস্তবতা, আমাদের প্রত্যেকের হাতে মোবাইল ফোন। সেটাও পরিবর্তিত হচ্ছে। একসময় নোকিয়া বাটন ফোন হাতে থাকাটা স্বপ্নের মতো মনে হলেও এখন স্মার্টফোনে প্রতিদিনই কিছু না কিছু আপডেট হচ্ছে, নতুন ফিচার যোগ হচ্ছে।মানুষের জীবনটাও অনেকটা এ রকম। আমরা আগে যেভাবে ভাবতাম, এখন তার চেয়ে ভিন্নভাবে চিন্তা করি। আমাদের সমাজ ও বিশ্বকে দেখার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিও প্রতিনিয়ত পরিবর্তিত হচ্ছে। তবে এটাও ঠিক যে আমাদের মধ্যে অনেকেই রয়েছেন, যাঁরা পরিবর্তনে ভয় পান; সারা জীবন একটা অভ্যস্ত ও আরামদায়ক পরিবেশে কাটিয়ে দিতে চান। কিন্তু আসলে জীবনে এগিয়ে যেতে হলে নিজেকে গড়ার দিকে মনোযোগ দেওয়াই সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, এর বিকল্প নেই।আমাদের দেশের ডাক্তার বা প্রকৌশলীদের দিকে তাকালে বোঝা যায়, তাঁরা কতটা পরিবর্তনের মধ্য দিয়ে যাচ্ছেন। প্রতিদিনই তাঁরা নতুন কিছুর মুখোমুখি হচ্ছেন, নতুন কিছু শিখছেন। নতুন দক্ষতায় নিজেদের দক্ষ করে তুলছেন, কোনো প্রযুক্তি বা যন্ত্রাংশের সঙ্গে পরিচিত হচ্ছেন। দক্ষতার সঙ্গে নিজেদের নতুন কিছুর সঙ্গে মানিয়ে নিতে না পারলে একসময় তাঁরা পেশাগত জীবনে পিছিয়ে পড়েন। এই একই কথা শিক্ষকদের ক্ষেত্রেও প্রযোজ্য। বিশ্ব এগিয়ে চলেছে, অনন্য ধ্যান-ধারণা চারপাশ থেকে বিকশিত হচ্ছে, প্রতিনিয়ত নতুন কিছু আবিষ্কৃত হচ্ছে। পরিবর্তনের এই প্রয়োজন আমাদের সরকারও গুরুত্ব দিয়ে বিবেচনা করছে। এ কারণেই এখন আমরা স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশ হয়ে ওঠার পথে রয়েছি। আর এটা অস্বীকার করার উপায় নেই যে স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশ পেতে হলে আমাদের শিক্ষাব্যবস্থাকেও স্মার্ট হতে হবে। স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশের উপযোগী শিক্ষার্থীরাই আগামী দিনে স্মার্ট নাগরিক হিসেবে নিজেদের দায়িত্ব পালন করবে। শিক্ষাব্যবস্থাকে স্মার্ট করে তোলার অংশ হিসেবে সম্প্রতি নতুন শিক্ষাক্রম নিয়ে আসা হয়েছে। কর্মমুখী ও অভিজ্ঞতামূলক এই শিক্ষাক্রম আমাদের শিক্ষার্থীদের একবিংশ শতকের চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবেলার উপযোগী করে গড়ে তুলতে সহায়তা করবে। প্রতিযোগিতার এই সময়ে তাদের বিশ্ব নাগরিক হিসেবে গড়ে তুলবে। স্মার্ট এই শিক্ষাক্রমের সঙ্গে শিক্ষার্থীদের পরিচয় করিয়ে দিতে হলে সবার আগে শিক্ষকদের দক্ষতা অর্জন করতে হবে। শিক্ষার্থীরা কী শিখবে, কিভাবে তারা নতুন কিছু শেখার প্রতি আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠবে, কিভাবে নতুন নতুন বাস্তবতার মুখোমুখি হবে, সেই বাস্তবতাকে কিভাবে সমাধান করবে—এসব নির্ভর করে একজন শিক্ষকের ব্যক্তিগত দক্ষতার ওপর। বিশেষ করে এই কর্মমুখী ও অভিজ্ঞতামূলক শিক্ষাক্রমে দক্ষ শিক্ষকদের দায়িত্ব ও কর্তব্য আরো বেড়ে গেল। নতুন এই শিক্ষাক্রমে স্মার্ট প্রজন্ম গড়ে তোলার উপযোগী কর্মমুখী শিক্ষার ওপর গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। কেবল চাকরির বাজারের জন্য শিক্ষার্থীদের দক্ষ করে তোলা নয়, একই সঙ্গে তাদের উদ্যমী ও উদ্যোগী করে তোলা, যেকোনো পরিস্থিতির সঙ্গে মানিয়ে নেওয়া ও সেখান থেকে প্রয়োজনীয় শিক্ষার্জন করা এই শিক্ষাক্রমের লক্ষ্য। আর এই লক্ষ্য বাস্তবায়নে শিক্ষার্থীদের পাঠ্যক্রমবহির্ভূত কার্যক্রম (এক্সট্রা কারিকুলার অ্যাক্টিভিটিজ) বিশেষভাবে সহায়ক হবে। এতে শিক্ষার্থীদের মাঝে নিজের কাজ নিজে করা থেকে শুরু করে যোগাযোগ, সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ, নেতৃত্ব, একতার মনোভাব, একসঙ্গে সমস্যা সমাধানের প্রবণতার মতো গুণের বিকাশ ঘটবে। এ ক্ষেত্রে পরবর্তী প্রজন্মকে দক্ষ ও স্মার্ট করে গড়ে তুলতে শিক্ষকদের পাশাপাশি স্কুল, অভিভাবক, এমনকি বন্ধুবান্ধবেরও এগিয়ে আসা প্রয়োজন। আগামী প্রজন্মকে বিশ্ব নাগরিক করে গড়ে তুলতে হলে শেখা ও শেখানো এই দুই ক্ষেত্রেই আমাদের সমান গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে। আর নতুন কিছু শেখার প্রতি আগ্রহী করে তোলাই হতে পারে এই যাত্রার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ।  লেখক : ভাইস প্রিন্সিপাল, দিল্লি পাবলিক স্কুল, ঢাকা News Link: https://www.kalerkantho.com/print-edition/sub-editorial/2024/02/23/1365907

Evolution of laptops Osborne 1, introduced in 1981, was the first ever laptop featuring a tiny 5-inch screen, and weighed 11.1 kilograms. Fast forward to now, we have large screens, immersive aspect ratios, slim designs and high functionality. This journey of laptops has gone through continuous processes of upgradation; and just as we witness the introduction of a more advanced version of each laptop (or any electronic device) every year, this trend will continue – with newer research, findings and innovation. This is just one example among many. From having to travel miles for healthcare to the introduction of telemedicine, or from steam engine-run vehicles to electric vehicles, upgradation has been the way of life forever. Similarly, the contemporary era also demands a need for continuous improvement – be it simply for personal aspirations, societal progress, education or overall development. With the likes of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Big Data taking over the world, the importance of adapting to the transformative forces of 21st century has become paramount. Moreover, against the backdrop of a globally competitive job market, constant upgradation has become more of a prerequisite for success. As Bangladesh is progressing towards the Smart Bangladesh vision, this necessity has become more prominent. The goal, based on four pillars of Smart Citizens, Smart Government, Smart Economy and Smart Society, recognizes the need for a technologically adept workforce. Even more so now, as employers are looking for technically sound individuals.   And hence, it is time we must equip the younger generation with skills needed for this rapidly evolving smarter eras. For this to happen, it is essential to have the right mindset – a thought-process that must be instilled from the earliest years of learning. A major step towards this goal is to constantly update the education curriculum, aligning academics and overall lessons with the demands of the contemporary job market and society. Adopting transformational growth to remain relevant involves continuous reinvention to cater to the evolving needs of students, parents, and society at large. Extracurricular activities play a crucial role in this process, ensuring a holistic learning experience. Drawing inspiration from global examples of educational upgrades, schools can integrate new methodologies and technologies to enhance the learning environment. Dynamic institutions that adapt to local and global contexts are better positioned to groom students for the modern world. Such a proactive approach is essential for educational institutions seeking to stay ahead. This process of upgradation necessitates the active participation of various stakeholders, including educators, parents, policymakers, and the broader community. Each has a role to play in grooming the next generation as efficient contributors to society. Growth is intrinsic to survival, and education plays a pivotal role in this regard. Glenrich Dhaka holds STEAM Carnival to promote innovation

Glenrich Dhaka holds STEAM Carnival to promote innovation. Delhi Public School Dhaka has organized STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Carnival to promote innovation and inspire curiosity at the schools Senior Campus on Saturday. Students from Grades 5 to 12 got opportunity to exhibit their knowledge and skills in the fields of STEAM, says a press release. For the second time, this Carnival held with around 2,000 visitors. Apart from students of Glenrich, students from Singapore School Kinderland, The Aga Khan School, Dhaka, Chittagong Grammar School, Scholastica, and International Hope School Bangladesh also participated in the STEAM Carnival. The projects represented creativity, innovation, and a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. There were Astronomy projects, Physics projects, Technology-related projects such as self-driving cars, Chemistry and Biology projects, computer programming-related projects, Science and Geography-related projects such as Water Cycle, Volcano, and many other projects developed by the students under the guidance of their teachers. To make the Glenrich STEAM Carnival more happening, a Fun Fair event took place, featuring food stalls, games, projects, and more. Glenrich students also arranged exciting games and refreshments for the visitors. Dr Shivananda CS, Principal of Glenrich Dhaka, said, “STEAM is a key component of modern education. Our student-led STEAM Carnival encourages STEAM education as well as fosters responsibility and a sense of collaboration. It was inspiring to see our young scientists presenting STEAM projects that they made themselves.” In recent years, the school has been an active propagator of promoting STEAM education in the school. It is an educational approach to learning that utilizes Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics as access points to boost students learning outcomes and enhance their confidence levels in communication.
