Bring your own Device (BYOD) | Grades 11-12

Dear Parents Education during the Pandemic has seen a revolutionary change all over the world. We all have adapted ourselves very soon to the new method of teaching-learning with the help of technology. Glenrich School was one of the first schools in Bangladesh to introduce online classes soon after the lockdown in March 2020. We achieved a great milestone in online classes and further when the school partially reopened we continued with the blended learning. On the occasion of regular school opening, we want to continue with blended learning even during our in-person classes. Which we are introducing a new concept for our students of Grades 11 and 12 as a pilot programme of “Bring your own Device” from 04 September 2022. This will be a new experience for students and the school and we will learn the inference for the next month and may extend it to all students for the next academic year. The following guidelines have been formulated to facilitate the Bring your own Device (BYOD) programme at Glenrich School. To utilize the online resources in the daily teaching-learning practice during the on-campus classes, the students will be allowed to bring a laptop, or tablet (without any sim) to school. Cell phones are not allowed. Grade 9 students will be asked to bring the gadget daily, while grade 7 will be bringing it on specific days only. (will be mentioned beforehand) Gadgets will be considered the essential tool of pedagogical practice, so the BRAND of the gadget is insignificant. All students do not need to bring gadgets to school if they don’t possess one of their own. Teachers will have alternate plans/ enough hard copies to support the students to accomplish their tasks. For research work, students can be in a group to share the gadget, if someone doesn’t prefer to bring the gadget to school. Photographing and browsing social media is BANNED from the school campus. Each student should have their own PASSWORD to unlock the screen. Students will turn on the gadget only when they get permission from their teachers. During Sports or MAD Classes, students will be allowed to keep their gadgets in their own lockers. School authority will NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for the damage /loss of students’ gadgets. STUDENTS NEED TO BRING IT AT THEIR OWN RISK. We will be providing a hard copy of the Laptop/Tablet Users Agreement to your child. Your child has to submit the signed Laptop/Tablet Users Agreement hard copy by 03 September 2022 to his/her class teacher. Invitation for Students’ Led Conference (Grade 1-4)

Dear Parents, It is my pleasure to invite you to the first ever Students Led Conference for Grades 1-4 on Saturday, 3rd September ’22 in the respective classrooms of the Junior School Campus. For each student, a minimum of two and a maximum of four parents/guardians can attend. The respective class teacher will give a specific time slot to you soon. Both the students and the teachers have started working on it. I request you to support your child to participate in the Students Led Conference by helping them to rehearse at home or to make a PowerPoint/Chart/Model, etc. We are all looking forward to seeing our students talking confidently to an audience and demonstrating their learning. A few guidelines: The students can prepare properties or use a PowerPoint or they can do it without any of them If they use any PowerPoint/Poster/Chart, they must submit the same to the respective class teacher by the 25th of August ’22. Each student may invite 2-4 people (parents, guardians, neighbours, or relatives) The students are allowed to carry notes and parents/teachers can give prompts if needed SLC is not a test or a competition; it is a platform for all the students to demonstrate their learning and hone their communication skills The parents must listen to all the presentations scheduled in each slot. The students and the parents are requested not to move out of the presentation session till all the 10 students completed their part. Each student will get an appreciation certificate for active participation After each presentation, there will be a 2-3 minute Q & A session Parents can video record their child’s presentation Please encourage and motivate your child to do their best, but do not have very high expectations as this will create unnecessary stress for them. Let us motivate our children to enjoy preparing for the conference. Introducing Students Self Assessment and Reflection (Grades 3 to 9)

Dear Parents,    Self Assessment has been rated as one of the highest learning influencers by Prof John Hattie in his groundbreaking research on visible learning.    https://visible-learning.org/hattie-ranking-influences-effect-sizes-learning-achievement/   Self-assessment and reflections [SAR] are the most excellent tools for learning and reinforcement. It will help our children to be focused on all and self-aware. We have made this self-assessment and reflection tool to help our students realize the importance of humility, empathy, grit, being smart and strong, helpfulness, courteousness, and time management. Many students might be following them already; SAR will reinforce the same.   At Glenrich School, we believe that students need to be aware of essential tenets of life which can shape their lives into happy and successful ones.    a. This self-assessment task aims to encourage students and parents to understand the importance of various tenets to be followed for a child’s development and enhancement of capabilities.  b. Students can rate their own behaviour and performance on various criteria based on facts and parents can supervise the same- parents should not enforce anything; instead, encourage their children for self-evaluation and reflection.  c. Students should be consistent in their rating; not lenient or strict but factual and justify with facts.  d. Parents have the responsibility of providing all the necessary help and support to their child in meeting the below-mentioned criteria; also to demonstrate ideal behaviour for their child, so that he or she can learn from them.  e. This self-assessment is done once in two months. Rating: A, M, S, N Always: A  Mostly: M  Sometimes: S  Never: N      If the SAR battery is administered properly, it creates room for improvement on the important virtues and tenets. Parents are requested to   discuss all the  SAR criteria with their child in detail; encourage their child to start following them one by one please make the child conscious of all the tenets in SAR; do not make this task a burden. Do not compare with other children Teachers will:   discuss all the tenets mentioned on SAR and encourage students to follow them demonstrate the principles at all times so that the students can emulate the same help students if they are struggling with any of these and coordinate with parents if necessary We have sent a hard copy of the Students’ Self Assessment sheet for them to fill in. Notice for the First Term Pre Examination PTM

Notice for the First Term Pre Examination PTM Grades: 5-12 Session: 2022-23 PTM Date: August 13, 9am-1pm ON CAMPUS Dear Parents, Please join us on Campus on August 13, Saturday, for the First Term Pre-Examination PTM to be held from 9 am to 1 pm. You can meet with the Class Teachers in their respective Homerooms for the time mentioned. Many of the Class Teachers are also Subject teachers, so parents would need to follow the Classroom / Class Teacher list to meet with the subject teachers. To meet with any other teacher, you can ask the Class Teacher, Section Head or Reception Desk. When you visit the campus on August 13, directions and a list of teachers assigned to classrooms will be posted near the entrance and the Lifts so that you can find the subject teachers who are assigned to different classrooms. We look forward to your presence at the Parent Teacher Meeting. This meeting will facilitate a personal interaction with you, your child and the teachers. Result Publishing Date for CAIE May/June 2022 IGCSE, O, AS & A Level

Dear Parents & Candidates,   This is to inform you that Cambridge International May/June 2022 IGCSE, O Level, AS and A-Level results will be published as per the below dates:   Qualifications Result date Cambridge International AS & A Level 11-August-2022 -12 noon (BD Time) Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level 18-August-2022-12 noon (BD Time)   Soon the school will share the result credentials with individual candidates and parents. You may check your result online using your Cambridge-provided credentials.   Please note that we will not provide any hard copies of results from the Board Exam Office. Pre-Exam PTM date on August 13, 2022 instead of August 20, 2022

Dear Parents Please be informed that we will hold our Pre-exam PTM on August 13, Saturday (instead of August 20).   We have changed the date and moved the Pre-Exam PTM a week early as Inter-School Debate Competitions (Organizer: The National Debate Council)  will be held at the school campus on August 20, 2022.    We will share with you the PTM time slots and information on the week before the PTM. Commencement of Glenrich Martial Arts Programme

Dear Parents Glenrich School, Dhaka is pleased to announce the commencement of a Martial Arts Programme. This Programme will be introducing Karate Classes as a part of the After School Programme. Mr Liton, a professional Karate Trainer and the Country Director of the Goju-Kai Association, Bangladesh has been appointed as Chief Instructor for the Karate Classes at School. The Course will be for a duration of 05 months and the cost per month is BDT 1800. Interested students are required to fill out the google form and submit the amount of BDT 9,000 to the Accounts Department by Thursday, 28 July 2022. Classes will begin on Sunday, 31 July 2022 during after-school sports activities.   Junior Campus Grades 1 to 4, from 2:10 P.M. –  3:10 P.M. Days: Sundays & Thursdays Venue: Indoor Play Area, Ground Floor, Junior Campus Senior Campus Grades 5 & 6, from 2:10 P.M. – 3:10 P.M. Grades 7 to 10, from 2:45 P.M.- 3:45 P.M.
